Won’t Be No Starbucks

(this is a song by Don Anderson, from our post 9/11 compilation ‘Osama Bin Dubya’… )

G D Em C
I was standing at California and Monkey
when I met a man in sunglasses and camouflage fatigues
He said how’s the job search going are you getting any leads?
I said I heard about a few openings in this big city back east

He said forget that crap your country needs you son
It’s time you got some fresh air trade your laptop for a gun
A soldier’s life is carefree all he does is sing and play
So won’t you sign upon the dotted line and we’ll send you off today

I went from dot commer to cannon fodder, millionaire to shell shocked stare
Stockowner to organ donor, internet shopper to bullet stopper
And there won’t be no starbucks where I’m going
And there won’t be no starbucks where I’m going

I was standing at California and Monkey
Wondering when the first bankers would be falling at my feet
And all those skyscrapers were burning right above my head
The folks up on the hundredth floor must already feel dead

Well, my jaguar just got repoed and that hurts
My cell phone hasn’t rung for so lone I’m not sure it still works
The army guy said seems to me you’re do for some better luck
I said what the hell, he said that’s put well, and loaded me on the truck    Chorus

The US army’s running out of jeeps
So they’re sending everyone out in shiny new SUVs
Wave after wave offroading through the desert we will go
Just like in all those commercials, they’re made for that you know

Well those shepherd boys will be so shocked to see
Broncos, Jimmys, Pathfinders, Jeeps and Cherokees
The way they guzzle gasoline you know I have no doubt
Those Arab boys will shed a tear each time they take one out  – Chorus

I went from dot commer to cannon fodder, online chatter to cave splatter
Great big brain to bloody stain C programmer to heartless killer
And there won’t be no starbucks where I’m going
And there won’t be no starbucks where I’m going
